Let me start by saying that I have never been a huge fan of Beaujolais, period. Gamay usually tastes like what I’d imagine a three-week-old gym sock would: musty, flat, and just plain wrong.
Yet…
YET…
Out of pure boredom, I picked up a bottle of the Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais-Villages a few weeks ago. Maybe the magpie (ADD) in me was attracted to the bright — nay, kaleidoscope, ADD-frenzy-bright — label. Regardless, I bought it.
Prepared for disaster, I took a swig. What awaited me was a mouthwatering dry fruit juice of a delightful wine. A wine that forced me to squeeze as many adjectives as possible into a sentence. Mind you, this is not the wine you look at to change your life by apocalyptic proportions, but rather a fun, drinkable afternoon sip. I recommend chilling this ever-so-slightly — it actually brings out the fruit a bit more.
Drink alone and now, or with soft, mild cheeses, other appetizers, or pizza.
