With its flinty soil and rich viticultural history, Maconnais is most famous for its Chardonnays, most particularly for good value Chardonnays.
As with our other wine, 2005 was good to the Chardonnays as well. Many white Burgundies manage what California Chardonnays can’t: a delicate balance between a a light, refreshing crispness and the velvety fullness that distinguishes the Chardonnay grape.
Domaine de la Croix manages the balance beautifully, at a terrific priceāa great value for the wine and the vintage. It is rich, voluptuous, smooth, and almost buttery, yet finishes smartly with a light, delicate aftertaste.
Enjoy this with a lightly sauced seafood dish or simple salad (my goat cheese salad!).
