I fell in love with Zins early in my wine-loving career, but wound up finding many of them to be too raisin-y in taste. Raisin can be a signature taste of Zinfandel grapes but also should be balanced by other notes. The Blockheadia Ringnosii 2005 exemplifies that ideal balance with hints of blueberry pie, raspberry, spice, and chocolate. We enjoyed this with a hearty Italian dinner, so think big (grilled steaks, sausages) when pairing.
