Pinot Blanc is a mutation of Pinot Gris (Pinot Grigio in Italy, Pinot Gris in many parts of the New World) and, in Alsace, does not necessarily mean 100% Pinot Blanc. This particular Pinot Blanc is 100% and is more remniscent of its Italian cousin than a softer Alsatian white. This is not a bad thing.
I have often joked that some Pinot Grigios taste like wine-flavored water, and this couldn’t be more of the opposite. Maintaining all the good characteristics of a Pinot Grigio and other Pinot Blancs (structure, good acidity, citrus), the Albert Mann presents with a lemony nose that’s prominent on the palate and leads into softer notes of golden apple and pear.
This could stand up nicely with cheeses but is probably too overpowering for most shellfish dishes — try with a cream-sauced pasta dish.
