“Les Dames d’Escoffier are delighted to announce CELEBRATING FOOD! On Saturday, February 27, 2010, from 9:00am-5:45pm at the Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville, Maryland, the DC chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier will present its Seventh Salute to Women in Gastronomy.
“The $95 fee covers an extraordinary, fun, and educational day-long symposium offering 16 sessions, 40 speakers, hands-on cooking classes, a culinary expo with new products, samples, cookbooks and experts, [and] breakfast, lunch, and dessert & wine finale.
“Carla Hall, Bravo TV’s Top Chef finalist, and Nongkran Daks, winner of the Food Network’s Throwdown! With Bobby Flay are the keynote speakers. Their engaging theme, “What Really Goes on Behind the Scenes of TV Chef Competitions,” will offer interesting insights into reality cooking shows. Other culinary luminaries, including James Beard Award-winning author Aliza Green. Najmieh Batmanglij, Persian cooking expert and cookbook author, and Joe Yonan, Washington Post Food Editor, will lead seminars.
“You will learn about tricks of the trade, culinary blogging, food writing and restaurant reviewing. Find out about rice varieties, uncommon spices and how to select seafood. Get the inside scoop on the latest trends in kitchen design and cocktail mixology. Become better informed about farm-to-table programs and local wines. And, participate in hands-on classes in pastry-making, pickling, flatbreads and sushi. There will be tastings galore.
