Domaso Scales Back

Some bad news that highlights a huge restaurant trend: Domaso, the upscale Italian gem in Rosslyn’s Hotel Palomar, just announced it will serve lunch and dinner only on weekdays and will shift its menu toward more casual Italian foods.

Domasoteca, the gourmet wine/cheese/chocolate shop on the hotel’s main floor, will close as well. Sad news!

Here’s the full text of Domaso’s statement:
Following a complete review of operations, Domasoteca Wine Store, located on the ground floor of the Hotel Palomar Arlington at Waterview will close on May 30, 2009. The wine store opened in January 2008 selling a global selection of wines, cheeses, chocolates, bread and other gourmet products. Starting May 11, Domasoteca will have a closing sale, with 20% off all bottles, 30% off mixed half cases and 40% off mixed full cases.

Effective immediately, Domaso Restaurant, located on the fourth floor of the Hotel Palomar Arlington at Waterview, will open for breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Friday, with only breakfast service available on weekends. Based on the increasing success of its lounge and in response to clientele for a more casual dining experience, the lunch and dinner menus will be updated significantly, and the bar will serve an expanded selection of signature cocktails and lounge menu items. While the restaurant will remain modern Italian in concept, the menus will change to meet the current economic conditions of the market, and will feature an expanded offering of pastas, sandwiches, and soup selections.

The dining room will be closed on weekends, except for breakfast; however guests can still enjoy food and drink from the bar on Saturdays and Sundays. Lounge food and cocktail service will continue to be available on the outdoor patio. Dining room operating hours are Monday to Friday - breakfast: 7:00 – 10:30 a.m.; lunch: 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.; dinner: 5:30 – 9:30 p.m. Breakfast will be available on Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 – 10:30 a.m. The bar opens daily from 4:00 – 10:00 p.m. with happy hour from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. daily.
