National Harbor: Dining Destination on the Rise?

Sitting just south of DC, the newly developed National Harbor features a $1 billion resort — Gaylord National — and a couple of rather interesting dining destinations. There’s a seafood-based spot, Moon Bay Coastal Cuisine, and an upscale steakhouse-with-a-view, Old Hickory Steakhouse.

The HG’s Alison got a chance to sample both restaurants’ offerings at a recent media gathering. She reports that Old Hickory’s artisanal cheese offerings and maitre d’fromage are worth the trip alone.

The resort’s centerpiece is a massive glass-enclosed atrium, complete with water attractions. (Think the Bellagio fountains on Vegas, on a much smaller scale.) If you want to stay completely encased indoors, nab Gaylord’s “Beat the Winter Blues” package, valid through the end of March. It includes one night’s stay, a free movie in your room, use of the pool and hot tub, and parking.

Anyone been out to any of the other recently opened dining spots at National Harbor yet? Does this place have legs as a new destination of choice of Washington food-lovers? We think that warm weather and the addition of water taxi service will up the desirability factor. Share your thoughts in the comments!
