Four Can't-Miss Culinary Destinations in New Orleans
As Top Chef has moved to New Orleans for the last part of the season — and in light of yesterday’s Mardi Gras (which is considered a state holiday in Louisiana) — allow me to take you on a quick culinary tour of the Big Easy.
Breakfast
Cafe Du Monde
Cafe au lait and beignets. The menu doesn’t need anything more, because they’ve manage to perfect the coffee and pastry combination so well that you won’t want anything else. Make sure to grab extra napkins.
Lunch
Napoleon House
You can get a culinary tour as well as a architectural one as you eat your muffeletta in the courtyard of this old French Quarter bistro. And by the way, that sandwich is the best buy you’re going to get, especially considering the classic New Orleans courtyard dining experience you get.
Drinks and a snack
NOLA
Yes, say it, an Emeril place, but by George, I’ve never had a better arugula salad in my life. The lemon dressing was perfection. The drinks are served in true New Orleans fashion — strong. NOLA is also great for brunch.
Dinner
Mr. B’s Two years ago they featured an unbelievable open-crab ravioli and I have been returning every chance I get. Make sure to ask for a seat by the piano if available. It is the best spot in the house.
