Dining in the Din

Sound familiar?

This article, from Washington Post food critic Tom Sietsema, has garnered a lot of attention and feedback over the past month and a half.

What’s the beef? Noisy restaurants.

Sietsema said in his weekly web chat yesterday that he’s received over a thousand responses to the piece. Most are from diners fed up with shouting over each other to carry on conversations in restaurants, many of which have eschewed plush chairs, luxurious carpets, and velvety drapes — all pricey items that absorb sound — for sleek, uncovered tables and floors.

Sure, that cuts costs, but does it render the dining experience unpleasant? One shouldn’t leave a hip, happening spot with a migraine, for crying out loud.

Do you share the same vexation with noisy spots? Tell us.
