Farmers' Markets in Winter

Sure, you won’t be browsing in flip flops and shorts, but there are excellent reasons to bundle up and seek out a year-round farmers’ market. Here are a few in my basket every Saturday morning:

  • Lettuces
  • Greens, such as Swiss and rainbow chard
  • Onions
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Pears
  • Carrots and other root vegetables, such as parsnips
  • Fresh herbs
  • Eggs and cheeses
  • Apple cider

I get my produce from the wonderful folks at Star Hollow Farm (McConnellsburg, Pa.), who sell produce in several Washington locations, including the Adams Morgan market.

Tell us about your favorite winter farmers’ market finds in the comments!
