Sly Fox Saison VOS

The Nitty Gritty:

  • Brewery: Sly Fox Brewery
  • Type: Ale
  • Style: Saison
  • Country: United States
  • Price: About $7
  • Rating: 87/100
  • Tags: Belgian-style pennsylvania saison

This golden beer from Pennsylvania was something of an epiphany for me. It is a wonderful specimen of the Belgian-style saison, or farmhouse ale. It is slightly fruity, spicy, and yeasty, with wonderful esters of cloves and perhaps a little banana. There is a definite hint of black pepper, adding a nice depth and complexity to the flavor. The 6.9% ABV gives it warmth, but its light body is refreshing – perfect for any season.
