Samuel Adams Summer Ale

The Nitty Gritty:

  • Brewery: Boston Beer Co.
  • Type: Ale
  • Style: Wheat beer
  • Country: United States
  • Price: About $1
  • Rating: 83/100
  • Tags: citrus Massachusetts wheat beer

Sam Adams Summer Ale, a wheat beer flavored with lemon zest and grains of paradise (the “mysterious” ancient brewing spice brewmaster Jim Koch loves to tout), has become to many the perfect summer beer. It is widely available but not owned by one of the Big Three (now Two), and it is delicious. Not too challenging, mind you, but a challenging beer is not necessary in the summertime. It is crisp and refreshing, with a citrusy and slightly peppery backbone. Warning: it is highly thirst-quenching. At 5.2% ABV, quench away!
