Orlio Common Ale
The Nitty Gritty:
- Brewery: Orlio
- Type: Ale
- Style: Golden
- Country: United States
- Price: About $1
- Rating: 80/100
- Tags: vermont
Orlio is an organic brewery that uses the Magic Hat facility in South Burlington, Vermont. It currently only brews three beers: the Common Ale, a Spring/Summer IPA, and a Fall/Winter Black Lager.
The Common is exactly as its name suggests: a very standard ale, a bit like a nice table wine or a loaf of crusty whole-wheat bread. It is a great meal accompaniment, like either of these, because it does not overpower the food, but has enough body to complement grilled meats, cheeses, or a sturdy salad. At 5% alcohol by volume, Common Ale makes a good session beer – you can have a few and still have enough balance to flip your chicken or veggie burger.

A Vermonter at heart, his favorite breweries are Rock Art and Long Trail. He is currently brewing a 9.5% ABV 95 IBU Spring IPA which he hopes will be potable (please see future columns to understand the acronyms, and whether it is in fact potable).
